Well, I decided to start blogging!

Hi everyone!

For those of you that aren't from around here, I'm Karlee and I own and run Karlee's Kupcakes! I hail from Brisbane, Australia but now live in Detroit USA with my husband. I've been putting this off mainly due to lack of time so I am super excited to start sharing a bit more about me and I guess an insight into why I do what I do and how I keep my business sustainable and going!

Starting out back in 2013, I didn't think much of what I was doing other than I loved it and what if I could do it all day everyday. I guess I wished hard enough and it cam e true ( I mean I worked pretty hard too ha). Getting started for me seemed to be relatively easy, I had and still have a great business mentor back in Australia along with my parents, family and friends who were all super encouraging and did what they could to help me on my journey.

I can't stress enough how important this was and I appreciate a lot of people may not be as fortunate as I was but mentors and support can come in all shapes and sizes. For example, I love Gary Vee on all social media platforms really but his podcasts are what stuck out to me because they were easy to listen to no matter where I was!

Along with having a great support network I also have a huge drive to be successful and to make something for myself no matter what I do. I am a pretty impatient person, which thankfully was somewhat of a blessing in this case because it pushed me to work harder and do better to ensure myself and my business succeeded. Also now being married to someone who is the EXACT same as me, scary I know, has been super helpful and encouraging as he sees the drive I have and wants to help fuel that any way he can which I am so thankful for.

Lets get real for a second though, I want to talk about my last, lets say, 12 months. I decided to take a decent break from my business because I was REALLY burnt out I mean I didn't want to see another cake again. So I came back to the US after my trip in the summer and decided to stay for thanksgiving and Christmas. I was meant to be home around my birthday in January, but....things changed a little! Chris and I have known each other for 11 years now and something just clicked in me that this was where I was meant to be.

Some days it hits me harder than others and I freak out and realize I am on the other side of the world away from everything I've ever known, but I've also been able to embrace the unknown and relinquish control of my life a little - which lets be honest, we all like to be in control of our shit! I was welcomed with open arms from Chris' family and friends as well as friends I have made through social media and doing cake lessons and orders here in the US which I bloody love.

I was extremely anxious about the immigration process and it is without a doubt something you just cannot prepare yourself for. Thankfully we hired the help of some amazingly experienced lawyers who answered every single dumb question I had and even came to our interview with us! YES we had to have an interview and the officer we had couldn't have been more friendly and I was very lucky to have the experience I did with gaining my permanent residency here in the US!

I am more than happy to talk to anyone going through the same thing or if you have any questions!

Well, I think for my first post that covers off most things! I will aim to update with general life things as well as recipes but please remember I am super active on instagram, facebook and youtube with constant videos and photos of treats I whip up! Please let me know if theres anything you'd like me to blog about and I'm excited to start sharing a little more with you guys!

xx
